We operate our own pool of nearly 9,000 officers and ratings. Crewmembers are personally selected and prospective applicants carefully screened to verify their experience, competence, fitness and comprehension of English prior to enlistment. Our operational staff includes Captains, Marine Officers, and Senior Hotel Department Officers with solid sea going and managerial experience.

We recruit mainly Ukrainian Seafarers through a network of crewing sub-agents located in shipping centres, including Odessa, Kherson, Nicolaev, Mariupol, Kerch, Izmail, and Sevastopol on the basis of strict adherence to internal Quality Standards of the Shipowners, full compliance with IMO and STCW requirements and the manning stipulations of the vessel and her registry.

Oral examination is conducted to test seafarer's command of the English language communication skills and ability to understand key instructions. Evaluation of the seafarer's technical proficiency and mastery of theoretical concepts is made through written examination. Crewing managers conduct rigid screening of new applicants based on VOLANS requirements and ensure that only the highest quality of seafarers are hired and made available to the VOLANS pool.

VOLANS has long term contracts with Kherson Marina College (navigation and engine department) and Odessa State Marine Academy that gives opportunity to use their students on board vessels of our Principals in positions utilities or cadets and postgraduates as OS and oilers as a start.

A pool of seafarers is established for each Principal's crew requirements. Seafarers become part of the Principal's dedicated pool at the end of their initial contract with the Principal. The "On Board List" (OBL) on our web site shows the names of seafarers on board. As well as up-dated ex crew list shows names of those who are ready for work or scheduled for crew change. A seafarer's appraisal report is providing information on the seafarer's performance on board a vessel as well as recommendation for promotion, re-hire or termination VOLANS discharges retains and promotes seafarers depending on the Principal's appraisal.

Acceptance of new applicants are based on the Hiring Standards set by "VOLANS".

Beginning with year 2000 Louis Hotel Organization started employing personal selected and trained by VOLANS for their hotels and airports in Cyprus.
